The Senate of the US is going to do exactly squat about this except whine. They get a Democrat instead of risking a special election. That's all they care about. Even if they go through the motions of denying him, they know it's just a show.

If the GOP had any leaders, they'd be having a field day with this.

I realize many have it a lot worse. There are those who long to have a partner. There are those who don't know the sweet joy of intoxication or, worse, refuse it. I know, crazy, huh? Plus, as a rule I actively rebel against obligatory activities with no small derision.

So with full recognition of such things in mind, I don't want to sound like a complete whiner when I bitch and mope about the fact that it's freaking New Years and I can't have my girlfriend OR alcohol. All I ask is to have my arms around the one I love and only a basic awareness of my surroundings when the New Year rings in. That isn't much. Fucking flu. I hope my white blood cells are torturing you first.
